Special Events Database
What database is the SpecialEvents database in and is it possible to get an extract of this database? Also, is this database accessible via a web service? And is this database updated on a daily basis?
Thanks!

The Special Events calendar is acessible on the web here: http://apps.sandiego.gov/secalweb/doAction.do?action=search
However at this time the database is not, nor is there an existing process in place to provide regular updates. A Special Events sample data file (click the 'Data' tab above and do a Cntrl-F for 'Special Events') was provided to enable developers to create apps and submit them for the challenge. We recognize those apps will not be using the most current data at this point, so these apps will be more of a proof of concept. If the Special Events Office sees value in one or more of the apps created, they are interested in making updated data available. How we would do that has not been fully fleshed out at this point. For the City, the most straight forward way to do that would be to provide regular update files, perhaps weekly, adhereing to the sample file format already provided. A live API is a possibility but there are additional cost and technical hurdles to solve. The bottom-line is that the Special Events Office believes there is tremendous value in making their data available through apps, but before they make any commitments of time and resources to provide access to updated data, they want to get a better sense of whether it will be well utilized.
